What does this symbol mean? Claire Tuesday, January 25, 2005

Question:

Hi again Br. Ignatius,

Here is a link to a picture on a cathedral: http://www.exeter-cathedral.org.uk/Tour/Tour01.html

It was pointed out that it has the pentagram on it, and that early christians used this symbol. (I asked about this earlier, but here is a picture now.) What does it really mean?

Thanks so much, and God bless you
from Claire

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Claire:

There is no pentagram on that Church. It looks like a five leaf clover. As mentioned in the previous post the pentagram is drawn with one unbroken stroke or otherwise formed of five lines which intersect. A 5-point star is not a pentagram.

In this picture the five-leaf clover looking symbol in the window may have a specific definition. I can't think of it at the moment. If it is a form of a star then it would be the 5-pointed Star of Bethlehem.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
