Question:

Brother,

I was wondering what the Church's stance on the different types of crosses. We're all familiar with the "plain" Cross/Crucifix, but what about, for example, "gothic" style crosses, "celtic" type crosses (http://www.celtarts.com/celtic.htm), or "Arthur's Cross" (http://www.britannia.com/history/cross.html) -- are they acceptable for earing around your neck?

Thank you Brother, I will pray for your mother.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Raphael:

All of these crosses are fine. The Cross, regardless of artistic rendering, is a symbol of the Passion of our Lord. Various cultures and various artists may render this symbol in many ways and this is not a problem.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary

P.S. Thank you for your prayers for my mother. She is doing remarkably well and is recovering miraculously -- especially since the doctors expected her to die.
