St. Faustina, St. Bernadette, and others... Joseph Saturday, January 15, 2005

Question:

Hello,

I would like your opinion about these Saints that have had personal revelations with Jesus or Mary.

I am currently reading the Diary of St. Faustina, and sometime during my reading I find myself thinking "this couldnt of really happened." Dont get me wrong. Its a beautiful book, and is going to help my spiritual growth tremendously. Ive been a Catholic all my life, but why do I feel "wierd" when I read accounts of situations like those of St. Faustina?

The same with the incorruptible body of St. Bernadette and other Saints. Thanks for your feedback!

God bless you and PAX!

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Joseph:

Why can't these things happen? Is God not powerful enough to accomplish these feats? Be careful not to put God in a box and do not let the devil rob you of the Glory of God in his miracles.

Besides, we know for a fact that Jesus and the Saints can appear in apparitions because they did so in the Bible. Moses and Elijah appeared in an apparition to Peter, John, and James. Jesus appeared as an apparition in that same event and also to Mary just after the resurrection.

As for the incorruptible bodies of saints, these are scientific facts. There bodies are in fact incorruptible in one measure or another. Can God do this? Of course.

The bible tells us to take every thought captive to Christ. These thoughts may be coming from your own personal doubts, or may be inspired by the devil trying to doubt your faith, or both. Trust in God. Have faith in Him.

He gives us these apparitions as a gift. He gives us this evidence of his glory in the incorruptibles as a gift. These are given to aid our faith.

Certainly take with a grain of salt any apparitions not approved by the Church, but those which have been approved the Church affirms are real. Nevertheless, you do not have to believe them. The Church allows you to leave or take them as you choose.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
