Personal & business Consecration Bob Tuesday, December 21, 2004

Question:

Dear Bro. Ignatius Mary:

In January of 2004 you answered an inquiry concerning consecrating my business and myself to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. I am trying to find official Church documents which will support this.

We consecrated ourselves and our business, but have been sued by the state of Texas under the deceptive trade practices act alleging that by doing so we claimed to be sponsored by the Catholic Church. To refute that, I need to produce some sort of official documents and have been unable to find them. I am considering hiring a canonist if necessary to help, but perhaps you can point me in the right direction.

God bless,
Bob

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Bob:

I am so sorry to hear about this. Also, I do not understand why this is happening. The Attorney General would only have to call the Bishop to find our that consecrating a business does not imply sponsorship by the Church.

With all due respect, my first inclination is to wonder if there is not more to this story that might cause the Attorney General to be concerned about your business beyond the mere fact of consecrating your business. Are you doing anything other than just saying you have consecrated your business that might smack of saying you are sponsored by the Church?

But then again, stranger things have happened, especially with those who are bigoted against religion or the Catholic Church in general. Governments seem to be going weirdo over the issues of religion.

What I would advise you do is to contact the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights. They specialize in helping people who are being persecuted for the faith.

Here is their contact info:

If for any reason the Catholic League cannot help you, then try...

American Center for Law and Justice

Virginia Beach, VA 23467
Phone: (757) 226-2489
Fax: (757) 226-2836

I would advise that you contact the Catholic League as soon as possible. I beleive these organizations do take on cases themselves in addition to just giving legal advice, so they may be able to provide you with an attorney.

We will be praying for you.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
