Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM
Dear Troy: I am not sure what you are asking. The Church teaches that we need to particularly avoid the Seven Deadly Sins (also called the Seven Capital Sins) of Pride, Covetousness, Lust, Anger, Gluttony, Envy, and Sloth because these sins lead to other sins and vices. The Seven Deadly Sins were taught by St. John Cassian and St. Gregory the Great. These are not doctrine, but observations from human experience. The Seven Christian (or Heavenly) Virtues are Humility, Liberality, Chastity, Gentleness, Temperance, Brotherly love, and Diligence. The Seven Christian Virtures are the opposite of the Seven Deadly Sins. These virtues lead to living the Godly and virtuous life.
