Mortal sins | JAIME | Monday, November 29, 2004 |
Question: A few years ago, I had a "wake-up call". I took a good look at my life and was very ashamed of the way I had turned my back on God and the sinful way that I was living. It still brings me to tears when I think of it. I have been to confession and I think that I have confessed all of my mortal sins, but sometimes I get this nagging feeling that I have left something out and that I will go to hell because of it. I love God with all of my heart. Sometimes I break out into tears during the Eucharist, during song, or when I think of Him. I want to feel hopeful that God will have mercy on me but after reading the story of a nun who went to hell after omitting one mortal sin, I feel so depressed and scared. |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM
Dear Jaime: You are covered! When we confess and the priest grants absolution ALL our mortal sins are forgiven, even the ones we forgot, and we are fully reconciled with God and His Church. Do not fear or worry. Forgotten sins are covered. Then, as you remember an old sin, you can confess it specifically, but technically it is already covered. No one goes to hell because of a forgotten sin. The nun in the story did not forget her sin, she deliberately and consciously refused to confess it. Be not afraid! Your forgotten sins are covered. God Bless,
