Question: hello I have been brought up as a catholic all my life, i am devout ans am a regular attender to mass. I went to all Catholic schools and now that im in mixed university i am wary of what could happen. To worsen this matter i live in northern ireland which has experienced problems. How can i live my faith but not insult or tempt others to become hostile against me. thankyou Michael
Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM+ Dear Michael: It is not possible to genuinely live the Catholic faith without a few people becoming hostile or insultive. There will always be someone who is a bigot against the Catholic Faith and against Catholics. The best thing to do is to just live a good Catholic life. Be a model of what Catholics should be. Love those who hate you and persecute you. Be a devoted son of the Church. In doing this you do not have to be aggressive about your faith, and since you are in Northern Ireland this point may be important. But do not hide your faith either. There may be people who try to bait you into arguments. Do not take the bait. Avoid arguments. if someone asks you politely to explain your faith, do so, but those who only appear to be interested and are really only interesting in negative debate, avoid. Remember, Jesus and the Apostles, and all Christians for the first 300 years lived in a land that was hostile to Christians. Live your faith and have trust in God to guide and protect you remembering that God has promised that nothing will come into your life that you cannot handle; and that all things work together for good to those who love God. Dear Michael:

It is not possible to genuinely live the Catholic faith without a few people becoming hostile or insultive. There will always be someone who is a bigot against the Catholic Faith and against Catholics.
