What do you think about this film on Purgatory? | Mary | Wednesday, November 17, 2004 |
Question: This isn't really a question. I just wanted to share something extremely cool with my Catholic bretheren. It's a short film about Purgatory, and it's absolutely GREAT! It's called "In God We Trust." (I wasn't able to play it with Windows Media Player, but if you click on "change player settings" and select Real Player, you can watch it). It's about 15 minutes long. Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM+
Dear Mary: Well, from a secular point-of-view I suppose this little movie is humorous, but from a religious point-of-view the movie is irreverent, utterly inaccurate concerning purgatory and how people "qualify" for heaven and hell, and blasphemous in that the "administrators" of purgatory were trying to make sure the fella who qualified for hell actually went to hell and tried to sabotage his efforts for redemption. Of course, that point is moot in reality since ALL people arriving in purgatory go to heaven. Purgatory is not a way-station in which the records are checked and the person on the up elevator or the down elevator. While the ending "seemed" to affirm the grace and mercy of God, the means the film takes to get to that end is not appropriate in my opinion. Sorry, but I would not recommend this little film.
