Question:

Is having sex with your boyfriend that you been with for years and now I'm engaged to him is that still a sin to God?

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r), LTh, DD

Dear Jane:

All sex outside of the marriage bed is grave sin. Thus, sex with your boyfriend, no matter how long you have been with him, is a grave (mortal) sin. Sex with someone you are engaged to is also grave (mortal) sin.

Thus, any sex with your boyfriend, even when engaged, is grave sin. This means having sex when unmarried places your soul in a state of sin, which in turn means that you cannot receive the Eucharist until you Confess this sin and are absolved by the Priest. Confession of this sin includes a promise to try not to do it again.

True love waits.

Wait until you are married before next having sex.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
