spiritual sadness about false teachers. Seeking answers Anton Tuesday, March 1, 2016

Question:

Calvinism, in my opinion, is on of the most blasphemous and unbiblical denominations. The fact that it states that God wills people to hell no reason is just nauseating. The sad thing is that it is very prominent.

Why do you think God allows these false teachers to exist? they're huge stumbling blocks to those seeking to convert to Christianity. God wants all of his children to be saved. It boggles me how people can follow Calvin and his teachings. It saddens me to no end... I want people to know that God loves them, even the worst sinners, and wants the WHOLE WORLD to be in heaven. It also sickens me that Calvinists basically say we do not have to obey God, and that we have no free will. If it wasn't for these so-called "reformers" Christianity would be more unified.

By the way, please pray for me to give the courage to tell my parents I want to convert to Catholicism. God bless.

Dear Anton

I agree that Calvin was off his rocker with his theology of predestination. His theory that that from the eternal past every person in on one of two lists — the list of those going to heaven and the list of those going to hell. Whichever list you are on is set in stone; there is nothing one can do to get off whichever list you are on.

This has lead to much suffering. It was thought buy many of Calvin's followers that the only way to know which list one was to count your blessings. If one is blessed in life, then that person must be heavenbound. If one was not blessed, such as suffering from long term unemployment, or delinquent children, etc. that one must be on the list for hell.

I call this spiritual capitalism. Capitalism measures success by the amount of money is made. Calvin's theology leads to measuring whether or not a person is heavenbound by the amount of blessings received.

I agree, this is truly evil.

Calvinism is not a denomination per se, but is the basis of the doctrine of specific denominations such the Reformed Presbyterians. There are many variations. Some denominations approach Calvin's theology with a light hand. Others are "hard Calvinists".

Interestingly, fundamentalist denominations, such as the Baptist, whether they know it or not, borrow from Calvin the idea of "once-saved-always-saved", even though they may reject all other notions from Calvin. The problem is that once-saved-always-saved, an unscriptural man-made notion, cannot truly be supported except in Calvin's economy.

To your question: The reason that false teachers are allowed to exist is Free Will. God will never intrude upon free will. Free will is like pregnancy, one cannot be 99% pregnant. Either you is or you is not. Free will is the same. Either mankind has free will, which a major aspect of being made in the image of God, or mankind has no free will. Calvin thought that we do not have free will, or limited free will, which is impossible.

Free will can bed impaired in an individual by reasons of brain damage, trauma, and a host of other reasons, but mankind still have free will.

Thus, Calvin exercised his free will to construct an ungodly theology. People use their free will to join the denominations that support Calvin's doctrines.

This is why we must always take the opportunity to stand up for our faith and to explain that faith when we are asked (1 Peter 3:15), and to pray for our separated brethren. Here is one such prayer.

We will certainly pray for you and your parents. Remember to not nag them or get involved with unproductive argumentation (which St. Paul tells us to avoid in Titus 3). Be loving, be factual, explain the faith, let them know your faith calmly, and then let it go. Let the Holy Spirit do the rest. Then, if they come to you with a question, answer it with gentleness and love.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
