Question: Hi, Brother Ignatius - I have encountered, while browsing through the internet, a priest by the name of Fr Jack Ashcraft. Have you heard of him? I listened to a radio interview he gave - and it appears he is a first-class loony! (in my opinion). He claims our Pope Francis is not a legitimate pope - that, in fact, there hasn't been a legitimate pope since Pius XII! I managed to contact Fr Ashcraft on Facebook and asked him was he a sedevacantist. He said "Yes"! He added that "Bergoglio" is schismatic - as all the "popes" have been since Pius XII - and that the post-conciliar Church has departed from the one true Church founded by Jesus Christ. I strongly objected to what he was saying, and let him know in no uncertain terms. I replied by saying that he (Fr Ashcraft) is the schismatic - and indeed, a heretic. I even went so far as to say I strongly doubted the validity of his ordination, and reverted to calling him "Jack" rather than Father Ashcraft. I sincerely believe I was justified in doing so. "Father" Jack Ashcraft also claims he is an authority on exorcism and demonology - an exorcist extraordinaire! I have brought my concerns about this character to the attention of highly reputed Catholic apologists in the USA, and have been informed that Jack Ashcraft is indeed a kook! As you, brother, know quite a bit about demonology etc., I thought I would bring this matter to your attention as well. Have you heard of this Jack Ashcraft character - and do you concur with the counsel I have been given (viz. to have nothing to do with him)? Should others be warned - since he could well be leading people astray? I look forward to your comments. God bless you.
Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r), LTh, DD Dear Alan: Yes I know Jack Ashcraft. I have had dealings with him personally, unfortunately. Ashcraft is a founder of "United Paranormal International". I criticized him for allowing witches and occultists onto his discussion group and allowing them to express opinions about demonology, hauntings, etc. with impunity. He kicked me off his group. Then he came on my Spiritual Warfare discussion group and tried to recruit people off my group and onto his. When I found out about this I warned the members of my group about him and asked him to stop. He didn't, so I kicked him off my group. Here is the message I sent to members: Folks: Some of you got PMs from "FatherJ" with a link to his spiritual warfare site. Please ignore these PMs and delete them. Father J is actually Father J.L. Davila Ashcraft. I would advise that you not join his site.... Ashcraft opens himself up to errant views in an effort of be "open" and "accommodating" while being intolerant to those who teach Truth. His community sites are riddled with witches, non-Christians, who are allowed to share their views as if their errant views have equal dignity with the Truth. This causes confusion for the innocent person who stumbles on his site looking for good information on the topic of spiritual warfare. Ashcraft, himself, is what I call a Heinz 57 variety priest. He claims no less than 13 separate lines of apostolic succession, none of them licit.... Then all hell broke out. I was attacked by his cronies. It got nasty. Ashcraft and his cronies have cause havoc pretty much wherever they show up on the Internet. There was a great deal of divisiveness and trouble caused on Fr. Fortea's public discussion group. Fortunately, these people were not allowed on Fr. Fortea's private discussion group. I concur. Ashcraft needs to be avoided at all costs. Have nothing to do with him. God Bless, Bro.
