Question: Dear Br Ignatius Mary Greetings. I had written to you twice earlier last year. I have been following the advice you have given me as best as I can. But it seems the problems still persist. A close friend of mine who is Charismatic, insists that I attend a residential Charismatic Retreat at a place few hours away from my residence. She says only attending such a retreat will give me relief from my problems. It is now the monsoon season in India and I am unable to travel long distances by road. I try to attend Holy Mass on weekdays whenever possible practice regular devotions go for Confession in Lent and Advent try to live a good Catholic life as best as I can. My question is does Jesus give us healing only if we attend Charismatic retreats ?

You must persist in your prayers always ending with "nevertheless Thy will be done." We must accept that the answer to our prayers may be (1) not yet; or (2) not until you learn something; or (3) no. Our document on Christian Resignation as a Prerequisite to Freedom may help in this regard. As for your question: no, it is not necessary to go to a Charismatic retreat to be healed. This illustrates the arrogance of much of the Charismatic Renewal. No, it is not necessary to go. Live the good Catholic Life is all you need and accept that God may say no to your healing. If he does say no then there is a reason for it. He knows what is best for you. He may be teaching you something (like perseverance, patience, dependence upon Him, resignation to His will) We will be praying for you. God Bless, Bro.
