Controversies of the Catholic Church Christina Sunday, May 17, 2015

Question:

Dear Brother Ignatius Mary,

What I was looking for were some general controversies of the churches teachings. Such as is Mary a virgin, are there people in hell, did Jesus walk as a divine man, did mother Mary die before she was assumed. Little things like this.

Thank you,
Christina

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r), LTh, DD

Dear Christina:

Well, I guess you are talking about controversies that are invented by some Protestant anti-Catholics. The primary issues are:

  • sola scriptura (the bible alone. This is the fundamental issue that fuels all the rest)
  • sola fidei (faith alone)
  • the Papacy
  • Mary
  • praying to Saints
  • Indulgences
  • the Crusades
  • the Inquisition
  • Galileo
  • the so-called riches of the Vatican
  • Catholic Church as the Whore of Babylon

There are others, but these are probably the main ones. Answers to these issues can be found among the tracts of Catholic Answers and the material at Biblical Evidence for Catholicism.

This should get you started.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
