Question:

Is it okay for me to pray for bodily healing or simply accept this is what God wants? I have asked for healing many many times; it has not yet been given, so should I take that as a no or should I persevere in my prayer? I am so confused as to what would be more pleasing to God - persevering with the belief He will give, or resigning myself to the illness and offering it up in resignation. Did great saints ever asked to be relieved from suffering? Thank you so much for your reply.

Dear Helen:

Sorry for the delay in responding.

I have moved your question to this forum as the topic is not about spiritual warfare.

There is no problem in continuing to ask God for healing and at the same time accepting whatever God's will is for you.

Even Jesus asked the Father to be relieved of suffering. In the Garden Jesus asked the Father is this cup (the cup of the Cross) could pass from him. But, then Jesus said, "nevertheless thy will be done."

(Luke 22:42) "Father, if Thou be willing, remove this cup from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Thine be done."

This is what we must do. We must accept our circumstances, rest in the arms of our Lord, and resign ourselves to His will. We can still pray for healing, but any desperation or longing should eventually fade away in favor of resignation.

We have a pamphlet on this entitled, Christian Resignation as a Prerequisite to Deliverance, that can be useful here.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
