Does God give a warning? George Monday, February 23, 2015

Question:

Brother,

Does God give a warning if something bad is about to happen to a person sometimes?

From this forum I read God gives gifts to benefit the church. So sometimes I get this extreme anxiety for no reason. It's very rare not something that happens regularly. When it happens I have an extreme feeling that something bad is about to happen and most of the time something does change in my life. Could it be my guardian angel?

Most of the time it's something happening behind the scenes that I am unaware of at the time. Not a prediction of the future. Usually negative. But there have been times in my life I get a euphoric sense and something nice happens to me. It's very personal though and I don't see it benefiting the church. I guess it prepares me for a sudden change but it kind of stresses me out a bit. Should I be concerned?

There have maybe been two times in my life I couldn't pin point a reason but this happens very infrequently. Two fresh examples fresh on my mind so you have an idea of the circumstances are I had a very anxious feeling one weekend and soon an employee asked me for a raise. Another anxious feeling one weekend and soon after our nanny informed us she had to quit. An example of a positive was the election of our new Pope. Just felt like it was going to be a good year for me after Pope Francis was elected. a general sense of wellbeing. So nothing extreme but the negatives often surround annoying changes :).

Thank you for your time.

Dear George:

Sorry about the long delay in answering.

Most of what you are talking about is just coincidence. Other instances can be natural human intuition.

With that said, God does sometimes inform us of something bad about to happen. This has been reported many times from people who had a premonition that a plane would crash. Thus, they take a different flight and later find out that the plane of the original flight did indeed crash.

This happened when the World Trade Center was destroyed. Many people did not report to work that morning.

God can communicate potential danger in other ways besides a feeling. He can save someone from disaster like this by causing a flat tire, or preventing a car from starting, or sleeping through an alarm.

This happened with my daughter and the Oklahoma City bombing. She and my three-day old granddaughter had an appointment at the Federal Building at 9am. The bomb went off at 9:02am. Had my daughter and granddaughter made the appointment they would both be dead. My granddaughter would have been the youngest killed. This did not happen because my daughter overslept. She was actually awakened by the sound of the bomb blast.

These sorts of things happen irregularly. What you are reporting is something on a more regular basis. This would be a clue that your experiences are coincidental, and in some cases natural intuition.

As for any gift, you are correct. A gift of the sort you are suggesting is personal and thus not a charism gift talked about by St. Paul.
