Question:

Is is it against Catholic religion to color in Mandela drawings?

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r), LTh, DD

Dear Sam:

According to one site the word "mandala" is Sanskrit for "circle." The site says that "In essence, mandalas represent the connection between our inner worlds and outer reality. Designing your own mandalas can be both inspirational and therapeutic" and can be thought of as an "echo of your soul"

As far as I can see at the moment, I do not see any problem with drawing a mandala, which is and abstract circular form, as long as you are doing it as art and not some spiritual exercise as in trying to make a connection between "inner worlds and outer reality" or an "echo of your soul" or drawing Hindu symbols and the like.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
