Question: Is cheating on a quiz or exam considered a mortal sin? |
||
Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r), LTh, DD
Dear Mary: Cheating on a test is a sin. Whether or not it is grave or venial depends on what the test is for. Cheating on test is a form of misrepresentation. It is a lie. It does violence to the virtue of charity against your fellow classmates. It is a form of stealing, which is a violation of the 7th Commandment, "thou shall not steal." I think that in most circumstances cheating on a test is grave sin. However, it does not matter whether or not it is grave, we are not to sin at all. If one thinks that because some sin is not grave and therefore it is okay to commit the sin, then the grave sin of presumption is committed. No not sin. Do not cheat. You spit in God's face by sinning. God Bless, Footer Notes: This forum is for general questions on the faith.
