Don't know what to think of this. George Sunday, September 7, 2014

Question:

Brother,

I have written to you in the past about a church I attend where Jesus is distributed in glassware and the church does not kneel after the "grant us peace" part of the mass. Well I have probably observed the single most disturbing thing of my life. I am writing to seek your advice.

This church makes their own bread for the host which is fine I have learned. Well I received communion on the tongue as usual today and in the corner of my eye I saw a crumb fall to the floor. Cowardly I continued on as I was holding my baby and didn't want to cause a scene and was taken aback a bit. Of course people are now walking over this area and after the Mass was over people stand here and the whole time I am cringing inside. Partly due to my lack of action and partly because of what I was witnessing. I approached the priest and told him what had happened and asked if I should search and pick it up. He told me not to worry about it. Well I went anyways and to my surprise I found many pieces of the Host there! I picked up the few I could find in the immediate area and went to the sacristy in search of the special sink you talked about here before which leads directly under the church. The first man there didn't know what I was even talking about but the second found it for me and thanked me.

Brother I am at a loss here. Should I approach this priest in private or should I go straight to the top with this? I guess this is another reason perhaps most churches use the wafer form of the Eucharist. If during one mass there were 3-4 pieces in one spot, and I'm sure if I looked harder I would have found them all over the floor, what is happening every day here?

Thank you for your time and God Bless.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r), LTh, DD

Dear George:

It sounds like you have already approached this priest about your concerns. You may, if you wish, approach him one more time. If your concerns are not properly addressed and resolved, then go to the bishop.

We will be in prayer for this very problematic parish and its pastor.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
