Question:

hi sorry something wasn't clear for me

i just want to know if i was aware that it was a near occasion of sin but i felt that restitution was a legitimate reason to go buy at the store would that still be no sin or was it not a sufficient reason to go to the store "near occasion of sin"

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r), LTh, DD

Dear James:

Sorry for the delay in answering your question.

I know that you are suffering from scrupulosity so I will try to make this very clear.

  1. Temptation is not a sin.
  2. Near occasion of sin is not a sin
  3. Purposely placing oneself in the near occassion of sin is foolosh, but is not a sin.

In the case you present, you appear to be bothered by the immodest CD covers that you have to sort through at a music store to find the CD you want to buy. Then why do it when you do not have to? It is foolosh. You can buy the CDs you are looking for on Amazon or some other online store. This will avoid having to be exposed to the immodest CD covers. Simple and prudent solution.

But, if you want to foolishly place yourself in the near occasion of sin by going to a music store and sorting through the CDs you can. It is not sin. You are being a fool, but it is not sin.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
