Question: I apologize if this sounds absurd or maybe even fanatical and if so I rejoice in that humiliation.First I am in the Legion of Mary and have a profound love for prayer. Concerning this I am aware of the need to "pray always" . If I am in the tub or in the restroom would mental prayer be the only suitable way or could I pray the Rosary? Once again Im sorry for the absurdity. God bless.
Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM+ Dear Susie: You can pray anyway you want, any prayer you want. The Little Flower, and also St. Benedict, taught that every action was to be a prayer. The ACT of picking up a pencil off the floor can be a prayer. Thus prayer does not have to be words or inspirations, it can be an action. Also, our actions can inspire spontaneous prayer such as when taking a shower, "Lord, as I wash my body of its grime and dirt, please wash my soul of the residue of sin." ...or when changing a baby's dirty diaper we have an opportunity for prayer such as, "Lord as I change this stinky diaper, please cleanse from me the stink of my sin from my soul." Prayer in any way -- in words, thoughts, imagination, contemplation, actions -- or in any place whether that be the kitchen, the bathroom, the shower, the car, the bus stop, the bed -- or in any posture whether sitting, lying down, standing up, kneeling, in bed, before a crucifix, in the middle of a wheat field, wherever -- pleases God. As far as the bathroom is concerned, that is my office and reading room. If I had a computer in the bathroom too, then most of these Q&A's would get answered in there :) God Bless, Bro.
