Question:

hi brother

i have a a question about prayer , if i did a mental prayer and for example i pictured jesus in my mind standing in front of me and i bowed down and said i adore you and worship you physically or even mentally , is this correct thing to do since though i mean to adore jesus and worship him im actually doing this to a figure of jesus i created in my mind and not actually jesus though i mean to do it to jesus , if that makes sense or am i sinning by doing this ?

thank you God bless

Question Answered by

Dear Jack:

I moved your question to this forum since it really does not deal with spiritual warfare.

There is nothing wrong with praying in front of a statue or an image in one's mind as long as one is praying to God or the Saints, as the case may be. The images (painting, statue, image in the mind, etc) only serve as an aid to lift our minds up to God and the Saints.

This is similar to looking at an image of our grandparents. To look upon the images brings to mind our grandparents. To look upon the images of Christ brings to mind our Lord. Our prayer, therefore, is not to the image but to our Lord.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
