Question:

Hello. What do you think of these catholic sites: wdtprs.com/blog and rorate-caeli.blogspot.com?

Rorate seems to be a little sympathetic to the SSPX on occasion. Is it permissible for a catholic under the pope to visit SSPX related websites? Thanks in advance.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r), LTh, DD

Dear Naill:

Father Z's blog seems to be pretty good, at least from what I have seen, which has been only occasional.

As for the other website I noticed that one of their contributors is a priest of the FSSP. The FSSP is in full communion with the Pope; the SSPX is not.

I reject the term Traditionalist Catholic. There is only one kind of Catholic — one who is loyal and obedient to the current Pope and the Magisterium in union with the Pope. We all need to remember that Vatican II is tradition, too. Thus, a "traditional" Catholic must promote the Vatican II Mass as well because it too is tradition. All that the Church promulgates becomes "tradition."

Anyone who disparages the Vatican II Mass commits blasphemy, in my opinion, as all Masses approved by the Holy See are Holy. To disparage that which is holy is blasphemy.

As for this rorate site, I do not know. I am not familiar with it. A brief look it I saw an appreciation some of the legacy of Lefebvre. I did not see anything in favor of the SSPX, but then, due to lack of time, I took only a very brief look.

The Holy See has bent over backward to bring the SSPX back into the flock. Thus, any appreciation Pope John Paul II or Pope Benedict XVI may have had fell on deaf ears. The SSPX has arrogantly rebuffed the Holy See repeatedly. I am reminded of an observation made by St. Teresa of Avila: "The more we see failure in obedience, the stronger should be our suspicion of temptation." Obedience is the first and foundational virtue. The SSPX and similar "traditionalist" groups seem to have conveniently forgot that fundamental tradition.

As to your question, there are no restrictions to visiting any website that is not immoral. The question becomes, "Is it prudent?" As St.Paul said (paraphrased), because we can do something does not mean we ought to do it. We must evaluate the prudence of anything we do. I see no reason to visit SSPX websites, and indeed for some people it would be dangerous as they can become confused or even seduced.

Thus, as a general rule, in my opinion, SSPX websites, and similar websites, ought to be avoided.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
