Question: Dear Brother |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r), LTh, DD
Dear Chas: Referring to "God's opinion" is a rhetorical device emphasizing that not only are opinions not equal, but that God's truth trumps all. I repeatedly mention God's truth. When I refer to God's opinion it is a sarcastic response t people saying, "well, my opinion is this or that." I reply, "Well God's opinion is this" to emphasize, using the language of the person, that his opinion holds no weight against God. By the way, one of the definitions of opinion is "A judgment based on special knowledge and given by an expert." God certainly has special knowledge that no one else has, and He is the ultimate and absolute omniscient expert." Given that definition the word "opinion" might be used referring to God in certain contexts. But, my use of the phrase was a sarcastic rhetorical device. If that rhetorical device is confusing people I can go back and edit the essay to make it more clear that God does not have "opinions" but has the Truth.
