Question:

Hello Brother ,

With regard to Blessed Salt is it ok to use it in the corners of my house , in my office when there is tension and in my parents house on a regular basis ? I have been under spiritual attack and I feel I must extend it to these places I want to know the proper use. In one instance, I sprinkled the Blessed salt in my mother's room, in her favourite chair on the bed etc. I have prayed for her . She is particularly a cantankerous and disatissfied woman who takes pleasure in making others around her miserable. I was so desperate Brother.

Over the weekend I asked God that the Blessed Salt may deliver her of this mean spirit for the sake of peace. It is so bad. it is like something overcomes her and she just has to provoke those around her to unrest for no reason at all or for the most insane ones.

My faith is in God who sanctified the salt that has been Blessed by the Priest. I really hope it works ......

Thanks
Elena.

Dear Elena:

You can use Blessed Salt in any way that you would use Holy Water. It is certainly okay to bless your house with Holy Salt. That is what it is for.

But, you express that "I really hope it works." These sacramentals are not magic or talismans, thus they do not "work." The primary power behind all sacramentals is not the object itself, but the faith of the person who uses it.

Blessed objects can ward off some demons as some demons will be fearful of anything blessed. Stronger demons may not care.

The value of doing what you are doing is first, that the sacramentals aid in your own faith to help you pray for these people. It is in your prayers that mountains can be moved. Secondly, the presence of the blessed Salt can help to ward off at least some demons, and bring a holy "atmosphere" to the room, which may help people to, for example, moderate their "mean spirit."

We need to keep in mind that these sacramentals will not force people into anything. God Himself never forces anyone to do anything. We all have Free Will. The Primary Reason our prayers for others do not seem to be answered is not that God is ignoring the prayer or has said "no." The reason is that the person we are praying for has chosen not to respond to the prompting of the Holy Spirit.

This is why we are to persevere in prayer, never stop praying, never stop using your Holy Salt. Someday, maybe, through your prayers, the hearts will be softened and the people will respond to the promptings of the Holy Spirit.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
