Question:

Hello Brother ,

Thanks again for your good guidance that has edified my faith in the last couple of years. I wish I can help you but I live so far away :)

Anyway, again I was wondering... is it ok to listen to the messages of Joyce Meyer, Joel Osteen and Creflo Dollar, Sid Roth - it's Supernatural, to name a few.

Sid Roth always seem to find these people who have all sorts of extraordinary things happening to them as a believer in Jesus Christ and lol my life is less than extraordinary I wonder if I am praying wrong...or just getting by... or not praying the way to hit the target like these people. I mean isnt praying in front the Blessed Sacrament enough ???

I particularly like to listen to them when there is nothing good on cable ...However I notice one in particular his message is rather limited and related to God prospering us and new beginnings and the like as a child of God. I thought we believe in suffering and doing the will of God, as it pleases Him .

Are these messages erroneous and misleading?

Its really hard to be a Christian these days with all these messages bombarding us....

Thanks
Elena.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r), LTh, DD

Dear Elena:

I praise God that our apostolate has been helpful to you. The best way you can help us is to pray for us. We need prayers for volunteers, for donors, and especially for protection. When one does what we do there is a bullseye on our backside both for ill willed people and for the devil to target us.

The "prosperity" gospel and the "positive thinking" gospel are movements within some Protestant sects that are very problematic both theologically and psychologically. I would advise that you not listen to these people.

If you want to listen to a great speaker who is Catholic, try Bishop Fulton Sheen. That links to a page with dozens and dozens of free audio file of Bishop Sheen.

I also recommend Scott Hahn. If his talks do not excite you for the faith, then you are probably dead Wink

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
