Re: Confusion regarding disciplines, canon, doctrine Leon Wednesday, January 29, 2014

Question:

Hello,

In response to this qts "Confusion regarding disciplines, canon, doctrine" on Sunday, February 13, 2005, you gave a list of examples of levels of teaching.

Is there any official church document which has such a list.

God Bless,
Leon

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r), LTh, DD

Dear Leon:

Re: Levels of Teaching

The levels of teaching are given in Canon Law.

The Church does not provide a "list" of examples in this manner. Examples of items in the various levels are found in the Catechism, Canon Law, various Church documents, Ott's "Fundamental Catholic Dogma," and other such sources. Such documents, when discussing some particular teaching may be identify the teaching as dogma (Level 1), definitive (Level 2), religious respect of intellect and will (Level 3), etc.

But, these are not presented as a neat list. The list has to be compiled in the manner that I presented in that Q&A from the various sources mentioned above.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
