Question Title Posted By Question Date
54 day Novena Christina Friday, November 1, 2013

Question:

Dear Brother Ignatius Mary,

I would like to know what you would do in my situation. I am in the middle of my 54 day novena - the thanksgiving section and I said the wrong mystery for one day.

Now I feel that my entire novena is void.

Would you continue or stop and restart. I decided to continue with the novena. It doesn't feel right to just end the novena in the middle but I feel that it is now void.

(I have a difficult time with my memory and I am suffering with anxiety and depression that makes me distracted - It was done in error).

Thank you for you input -
Christina

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r), CCL, LTh, DD, LNDC

Dear Christina:

The Church does not regulate private devotions. Any private devotional prayer, such as the Rosary or novenas, etc. can be altered, modified, or said in any way you wish. There are no regulations. Thus, there really is no such thing as saying a private devotion invalidly.

In any event, you said the wrong mystery by mistake; it was not deliberate. Do not worry about it. Just continue on with the Novena. There is no such thing "invalidly" saying a novena.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
