Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r), CCL, LTh, DD, LNDC
Dear Nancy: In times past the definition of virgin for a female was that the hymen was intact. That is a stupid definition since there are many ways the hymen may not be intact. The proper definition of virgin is stated in the Catholic Dictionary: "A person is physically a virgin unless he or she has had sexual intercourse with a person of the opposite sex." Thus, the use of a tampon, menstrual cups, or any other device does not jeopardize virginity. Virginity is lost only with sexual intercourse.
