Question:

Hello,

Is it true that Collagen peptide used as a medicine is extracted from aborted human fetuses?

If so, what is the Church's teaching on the use of Collagen?

God Bless,
Leon

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r), CCL, LTh, DD, LNDC

Dear Leon:

There is a lot of controversy about whether collagen products contain tissue extracted from unborn babies. As much as I can find out, it appears that this is not the case most of the time.

But, one company has admitted to using tissue from an unborn baby. A San Francisco cosmetics company, Neocutis, has admitted that it used cells from an aborted male fetus as an ingredient in a beauty cream. See stories at Life Zone and The Washington Times.

Any company using tissue from aborted babies, regardless of reason, is committing a moral evil. Under no circumstances can it be approved to do such a thing. Such practices are Nazis-esque.

On a personal note, I refuse to take any medication that is made with tissue from aborted babies, fetus stem cells, etc. I make that pledge even if not taking the medication will cause medical problems. If there is no alternative, then I will not take medicine at all for whatever condition.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
