disposing of tabernacle fabric | jean marie | Friday, June 21, 2013 |
Question: Hello, I have just refurbished a tabernacle, and I am not sure how to dispose of the old fabrics which are full of a chemical glue that would give bad fumes off if burned. It just feels wrong to throw them in the bin. |

Dear Jean Marie: What I would advise you to do, since this fabric was in a sacred vessel reserving our Lord, is to do the same thing we do with any blessed object that is to be discarded. Cut up the fabric. That removes any blessing when it no longer resembles what it was. Then, since burning would be dangerous, take the pieces without burning them, and bury the peices in the ground.
