Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r), CCL, LTh, DD, LNDC
Dear Mindy: We do not give up our free will. Free will is part of the human person, we cannot eliminate it. What the Christian life is about is not giving up free will, it is freely choosing to submit ourselves to God's will. Reigning ourselves, or abandoning ourselves to God's will is a continue choice that me make each day, each moment. If we stop having that ability to choose God or to reject Him, to have free will, then we could not choose to submit to His will in the first place, or to continue to choose His will daily.
