Question: Hello, more a comment than a question; hope that's o.k. as I know this isn't a forum - People have told me similar stories to this and I tend to dismiss them somewhat.. however, in traditional Catholic pictorial symbolism, the butterfly represents eternal life. |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r), CCL, LTh, DD, LNDC
Dear Jean: The butterfly is a Christian symbol. The butterfly goes through a metamorphosis. We go through a metamorphosis at Baptism. From the seemingly lifeless cocoon emerges the beautiful butterfly who flies into the heavens. This is a perfect symbol of resurrection. Thus, the butterfly has long been a symbol of Christ's Resurrection, and is a symbol of the hope of our resurrection at the end of the age.
