John 14:2 | Nathan | Saturday, February 16, 2013 |
Question: It reads "In my Father's house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?" Some versions read "many rooms", others "many mansions". I have heard it say this is referring to different creeds, religions and referring to different religions here on earth, while others say it is referring to heaven. |

Dear Nathan: There many people who have wishful thinking that the many rooms refer to difference creeds or to many religions. That is false and a wishful thinking that could lead one to hell. Jesus has prepared a place for those who will go to heaven. Those that reject him and go to hell will not have a room or mansion in heaven as they will not be in heaven. To quote from the Ignatius Catholic Study Bible commentary on John 14:2 ~
It is my own view that the different rooms/mansions may relate to rewards we will receive in heaven. Some will have more rewards than others. Depending on our good works on earth, how we lived our lives, we will receive various rewards, which in turn, may determine where in God's heavenly kingdom we will be assigned. This should not be of concern for anyone. I would be happy to be a lowly private assigned to a cottage in the back-forty far from the main mansion in heaven, than to be a General assigned to the big house in hell. Here are some of the verses in the Bible referring to awards to which may form the basis of which room we are assigned in heaven:
