The Last Pope - Peter the Roman | Andrew | Wednesday, February 13, 2013 |
Question: What do you think about the next pope being the last pope? or a false prophet? I've been hearing a lot more about St. Malachy Prophecy's lately and not really sure what to think of it. |

Dear Andrew: The so-called St. Malachy Prophecies are fake. St. Malachy never made any such prophecies concerning the "last pope." Even if he had made such prophecies, he would be wrong on its face. The Church and her Popes will continue on until the Second Coming. The Second Coming could be tonight or 10,000 years from now. No one knows. Jesus tells us that no one, and that means no one, knows when the end of the world, that is the Second Coming, will happen. Jesus further explains that when it does happen it will be when no one suspects. Now if someone like St. Malachy declared that the pope after Pope Benedict the XVI will be the last pope, would not that gives us "a time that we will expect"? Such a "prediction" is contrary to Scripture and to Church teaching. Thus, even if St. Malachy did make those predictions, which he did not, he would be wrong, wrong, wrong. Just because he is a saint does not make him infallible. But, as I mentioned, these prophecies have long ago been discredited. So, do not worry. Popes will still be elected all the way up to whenever the Second Coming takes place. God Bless, Footer Notes: This forum is for general questions on the faith.
