Rosary Purchase Jim Tuesday, January 29, 2013

Question:

Dear Brother Ignatius,

Over the past few years I have made purchases from a website of carmelite nuns in Colorado Springs, CO (sistersofcarmel.com) which has many religious articles one can purchase. I have purchased several items like rosaries and crucifixes. Unfortunately, I have recently come to find out that they are not in communion with Rome. There is a particular rosary that I like and which I would like to buy. My question is- Would I commit a sin buy purchasing this rosary knowing that the sisters are not in communion with Rome?

Thank you. God Bless

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r), LTh, DD

Dear Jim:

There is no sin in buying a rosary, or anything else, from a community that is not in communion with Rome.  You might see if you can buy things from a source that is in communion if you can find the same item, but there is no sin in buying from the source you mentioned. I have purchased things from Orthodox communities in the past.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
