Question:

Don't you thing its rather hypocritical of many, especially our illustrious leader to be "broken hearted" of what happened to those poor children, and yet not shed a tear and as a matter of fact approve of the millions killed annually in the name of a "woman's right". Please don't get me wrong. I think its just horrendous of what happen today, but how many millions of babies will not be able to, as Obama put it, be able to celebrate birthday, graduation, wedding, kids of their own, since there were torn limb by limb, or had their brains sucked out, or their poor little bodies burned and than thrown in the trash like garbage? I think its a shame that Catholics as a group are just as guilty as that man who committed today's atrocity by voting for a government that promotes and legalizes evil and immoral acts. We seem to be mocking God by electing political officials who support those acts. I know that God will not be mocked and we are reaping what we have sown.

Your thoughts.
And God bless you and I pray for all those children, the mothers and fathers AND the man who committed that heinous act. But isn't it just a heinous, the millions of innocent children who are killed annually?

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r)

Dear Diego:

The tragedy and Sandy Hook Elementary was horrific. It is hard to get one's mind around it which is partially why people feel overwhelmed by it. We certainly do pray for the repose of all those who were killed, including the perpetrator, and for all the families, and indeed fop our culture that facilitates these evil events.

Tomorrow, Thursday, December 20th, I will be talking about this tragedy, the reasons why things like this happen, and about the issues that inevitably come up when such tragedies happen, on our radio show, Chronicles of Catholic Commentary, broadcast on BlogTalkRadio. You can listen live at 7pm Central Time, or listen to the show are your leisure from the BlogTalkRadio archives. We also archive the shows on our own website, Excellence in Religious Broadcasting Network.

As for comparison with abortion, there is no event that outranks the horror and heinousness of abortion. That is why procuring an abortion or helping to procure it, but not murder, suffers an automatic excommunication.

On our homepage we have a ticker on the number of abortions since 1970. That count is approaching 2 Billion babies slaughtered by abortion. There is nothing that compares with that, not the Nazi Holocaust, nor the purges of Stalin and Mao, nor any of the genocides throughout all of history compare to 2 billion babies murdered since 1970.

It is true, while this Sandy Hook tragedy is horrific, it is not as horrific as the 2 billion babies murdered in abortion. But, Deigo, this is not the time for this. The families, and the nation, are still mourning. We need to let them grieve and not detract from that right now.

I will be broadcasting the Pope's words and blessing on tomorrow's show and also offering a special prayer.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
