instructions in confession | edward | Monday, December 10, 2012 |
Question: My child and i have limited contact over the past 20 years i mentioned this in confession the priest told me to call . I intended to make the call but never did. Is this a reason not to go to receive communion ? I have not gone to confession or communion for about nine months because of this. Am i guilty of Pride for not giving in and calling? |

Dear Edward: I wouid go back to the priest and ask him if his instruction to call your child was a condition of absolution. If it was merely advice, then it is up to you whether or not you call. If it was a part of your penance, or any other condition of absolution, then you must call your child. If you feel you cannot do that, then talk with the priest to see if he will release you from that obligation. In any event, under no circumstances refrain from Confession because of this. That is pride. Get to confession this week. Talk to your priest about the instruction to call your child and whether or not you are bound to do that.
