Question:

I too used to listen to a non-Catholic radio station many years ago. However, there were some things that turned me off and I turned off that station. Thank God, we now have a Catholic Radio station.

What I didn't like is that they started to have teachings that were anti-Catholic. Once one guy said that he used to be Catholic and in his youth they were taken by nuns to the church and they had a small electric light bulb by the Tabernacle. He said that there was some nun behind the Altar and she would flip a switch on and off and they were told that when the light would come on, the Holy Spirit was in the Tabernacle and they all had to kneel. The light would go off and they would all sit down. This would continue for about an hour, on and off, afterwhich the light would no longer come on and they would leave. I don't know what world that "evangelist" was from but that was the most ridiculous thing I had ever heard. Then another well known preacher said he was going to explain why HE thought the CC was wrong about Mary ever Virgin. But of course that was HIS opinion.

What really made my decision to stop listening to them, was since they used to broadcast via FM, their contract ran out. They proceeded to purchase a Spanish AM radio station and they fired ALL Catholic employes and made the claim that is was a "business decision" and after all they were in the business to make money. So much for Christian charity.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r), LTh, DD

Dear Nathan:

There is always a danger in listening to any non-Catholic religious radio station or TV station or website. Some people are no able to tune into Catholic stations on their computer and thus have available to them only non-Catholic stations in their local area.

The songs played on non-Catholic stations are generally okay, but one still needs to be careful. The bible study, teaching, and preaching shows, however, will usually be actively anti-Catholic.

It is best to listen to Catholic Stations. There are many Catholic Stations one can tune into over the Internet, a listing of which I included on the original post on this subject.

We need to always be aware of influences that might lead us or our loved ones in a direction opposite to the true Church in the fullness of the Faith, which is the Catholic Church, and the Catholic Church alone.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
