Question:

Recently I was at a retreat in which the priest had sex. Early Saturday morning he celebrated Mass. Was that sacriligious?

Question Answered by

Dear Terri:

You sure seem to have a lot of priestly fornicating going on where you are. Unfortunately, this sort of thing goes on all over. The bishop who confirmed me, when we was reassigned to one of the most liberal diocese in the country, suspended 21 priests in his first six months because he found them living in concubinage with women, or with other men in homosexual sodomy.

Anyway, the Mass is not invalidate by the priest's sins. If the priest is receiving unworthily (in a State of Sin) then, like any of us who do that, he commits a personal sacrilege. For you and all the Faithful there is no problem receiving the Eucharist at a Mass this priest celebrates as the validity of the Mass remains uneffected by his personal sins.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
