Biting the Host | Lena | Tuesday, September 28, 2004 |
Question: Hi Brother, All my life I have been taught by my parents that biting the Host is bad and what you should do is swallow it. Is there any basis for this belief? Pax Christi, Lena |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM+
Dear Lena: This idea of not chewing the Host of our Lord is a common, but mistaken notion and misplaced devotion. From what I understand, the Greek word that is used in the Bible for the Eucharist means, "to munch". I think Scott Hahn mentioned that in one of his tapes. At any rate, there is nothing wrong with chewing the Eucharist instead of having it dissolve or be swallowed whole. God Bless, Footer Notes: This forum is for general questions on the faith.
