Fatima Prayer | Cecilia | Tuesday, July 31, 2012 |
Question: Dear Brother, We tried memorizing the Requiem Prayer and St. Gertrude's Prayer but I always ended up saying the meal blessing instead (accidently). After thinking about the Fatima Prayer, I thought maybe this would be a better fit since the words ask for mercy on our own souls as well as,"lead all souls to heaven especially those in most need of thy mercy". Our family now prays this as we drive by a cemetary. Since this is not a traditional "purgatory" prayer, I just want to know if this prayer is appropriate. |

Dear Cecilia: I praise God that our Site has been helpful to your daughter and yourself. Devotional prayers are not regulated by the Church, thus you can pray whatever you wish as you pass by a cemetery. The Fatima prayer is most certainly a good choice for praying for the dead as you pass by cemeteries. This is a wonderful thing to do for the poor souls in purgatory.
