Question:

Hello Brother Ignatius Mary,

Brother, I go to Mass every day - miss very rarely and go to confession every 2-3 weeks. I say an act of contrition every night before I sleep. I am so sorry for my sins and want the Lord to know this. I saw on your site that when one prays an act of contrition after a sin, he is then restored to grace (thereafter must go to confession). In my situation, does it appear that I am in a state of grace all the time? Because receiving the Eucharist remits venial sins and I always receive the Eucharist every time I go to Mass and so far, none of my sins are Mortal.

Thank you for your response.

Dear Christina:

There is no way I can determine whether or not you are in a state of grace. I do not know you and have never met you.

All I can tell you is the teaching of the Church. If one has no outstanding grave sins that need to be confessed in the Sacrament since the last Confession, then he is in a state of grace. Falling out of grace happens only when one culpably commits a grave sin.

It must be nice to even entertain such a question. I have to go to confession about every five minutes. Wink

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
