Question: Dear Brother, I am wondering what you think about videos by performers like Lady Gaga. I think she is very creative but there is definitely an "edge" to some of her videos which seems to include what could be anti-catholicism in at least one video. Also, what about other types of music that seem to be about romance/sex/rebellion? Can a person watch/listen to this and still be spiritually OK, or does Satan use it to try to get a toe in a person's life? I don't know why, but sometimes this type of music just seems to be very fun to listen to and I wonder if it is OK with God to do so.
Question Answered by Dear Mary: These "performers" like this Gaga person and Madonna are mostly lewd and lascivious . As such they are not suitable entertainment for Christians. Satan extensively uses music to seduce Christians (and anyone). Any music that promotes, encourages, or glorifies sex, drugs, rebellion, or any other kind of evil is Satan's pleasure because of how it spiritually and psychology damages people. There is a suggestion in the Bible that Satan (Lucifer) was the Choir Director in heaven before he was evicted (Ezk 28-11-15). In any case, Satan knows music and how easily music can damage our relationship with God and with each other by damaging our minds and spirits, and sometimes even bodies. Some forms of music seduce people into drugs, or seduce the emotions to enhance physical behavior. For example, in 1968 in a depressed mood, I almost killed myself listening the long version (20 minutes) of The Pusher performed by Steppenwolf. Satan makes a lot of bad things "fun." That is how he seduces us. After all, would we do these things if they were painful? It is best to avoid music that is destructive regardless of genre (there are a lot of Country songs that are just as bad). God Bless, Bro.
