Re: Do the Sacraments continue in Heaven? Leon Tuesday, March 13, 2012

Question:

Dear Bro. Ignatius,

Thanks for clarifying, that the Sacraments, which are ordered to our earthly existence, are not needed in heaven, because we will see him personally face-to-face in heaven.

Could you clarify what would this line mean in the CCC: 1335 It makes manifest the fulfillment of the wedding feast in the Father's kingdom, where the faithful will drink the new wine that has become the Blood of Christ.

God Bless,
Leon

Question Answered by

Dear Leon:

The "will drink the new wine" refers to Mark 14:25, "Truly, I say to you, I shall not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God."

The "new wine" that Jesus is referring to is the beatific vision in heaven. The beatific life in heaven is often compared to a banquet.

In heaven we will have glorified bodies that have no biological existece. Food and drink are biological needs. Thus, in heaven there is no need for food or drink.

Instead, we will drink a new wine, that is, drink in the Beatific Vision.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
