Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r), L.Th., D.D.
Dear Suzanne: The only prayers that are regulated are liturgical prayers of the Church, such as the Mass and the Divine Office (Liturgy of the Hours). Those liturgies must follow the directions of the Church with no variation. The Rosary, however, like all personal devotional prayers, is not regulated by the Church. You can pray it any way you want. If you want to pray only one decade per 10 years, thereby taking 50-60 years to finish one Rosary, you can. You can pray the Hail Mary on the big beads and 10 Our Fathers on the small beads if you want. There is no regulation of any kind; no reason to feel guilty.
