Cardinal Turkson and Vatican. | Suzanne | Tuesday, November 8, 2011 |
Question: Brother, about a week ago I wrote about If it was true about the Vatican condoning a one world bank and you said no the comment was made by Cardinal Turkson. Shouldn't he be in trouble and shouldn't the Vatican make a statement that it does not support his comment because alot of Catholics are confused and even mad about this considering our Church every anti-new world order. If we allow a one world bank it's common sense that everything else would come along to fulfill this evil agenda. |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r), L.Th., D.D.
Dear Suzanne: It is not the Cardinal or the Curial Counseling who asserted that the Vatican called for a World Bank. We need to automatically assume that the media will exaggerate or misinterpret anything the Vatican does. The problem here is the Press who consistently and constantly misrepresents quotations from Vatican staff. While it hasn't gotten this bad yet, I would not be a bit surprised if a reporter got a quote from the janitor and made it sound like it's official statement from the Vatican. In this case the document in question is a "Note", a White Paper, from the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace. It is no more "official policy" of the Vatican than "Notes" written by Cabinet Officers to the President are official U.S. policy. A good article that explains what the Council actually said is found here. On the issue of discipline, that is a personnel matter, and like all organizations, Church personnel records and disciplinary measures are not made public, under most circumstances with very few exceptions.
