Question:

Thank You for for your concerns. I want for to know that I take your advice seriously, and I am grateful that you take the time to answer these posts.

I have definitely taken your advice seriously concerning my thoughts of suicide. they have subsided due to the fact I wear the medal of Saint Benedict. Prior to wearing it, I would go to sleep thinking the thought, and awaken to it...I am not sayin that it is only a spiritual problem, because nothing is ever that simple. Not that spiritual problems are simple in and of themselves, but I know that personal difficulties can be a layer of different components: spiritual, psychological, and emotional. I know I have my own issues to deal with that a medal won't be the only help I can rely on. But it DOES mean the difference between the ability to sleep without nightmares and manic agitation, and the ability to sleep soundly. I see a counselor, and I exercise almost every day. For me, it is the three J's : JESUS, JUICE (Zoloft), and JAZZERCISE. =-)

I have learned to let go of my 18 year old daughter insofar as I have TOLD her that I respect her space to think for herself concerning her religious beliefs. I raised her the best way I knew how at the time. Now I take your advice that I must let go, and let God work with her. She is using her own judgment, and I want to accept that-- so she can feel like a completely separate individual from me. I never felt that from my own parents, and I have had problems for many years concerning this. I don't want her to have the same problems, despite any anxiety I have over her salvation.

A small part deep within me thinks that this is an **important step** in her growth, and that when and if she reaches the stage where she **decides**to accept Jesus Christ, it will truly be momentous for her...more so than if she were dragged to RCIA weekly by her mom. So I have TOLD her that I am respecting her decision to believe as she wishes, despite my difference, and that my hope and prayers are ALWAYS with her , and FOR her. She actually thanked me for my prayers. I believe she feels respected, which fills me with hope in God.

I just want to know that I am doing the right thing, and a part of me thinks that I should thank you, my benefactor ( of hope and spiritual direction). I see all the well thought-out answers you give to your posts despite your own trials. I see the genuine gratitude in the people who post to you too, and I am happy that they are able to connect to someone in their own needs.

If only those who don't experience the Love of God would know how truly enveloping it is. It is a (super)natural thing, a "rule" or "logical thing" that those who experience the Love of God, want for ALL to know and COME to His Love. How can we "shutup" and leave them "alone already!" while this well of love and joy we have in our souls swells?? It is a strange phenomenon.

I am presently praying the Self Deliverance prayers.
Thanks
Lisa

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r), L.Th., D.D.

Dear Lisa:

Thank you for your testimony. I praise God that you are experiencing some relief and healing.

Exercise is a great thing. By exercising there is a balancing of serontonin in the brain. This helps to alleviate depression.

You are very correct that when your daughter makes a decision for Christ, she will come to Christ more perfectly than if you forced her to attend RCIA. We all have Free Will and God respects that Free Will, even when we use it to sin against Him.

Remember St. Monica in your prayers for your daughter.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
