Frenulum breve treatment

Question:

Hello Brother,

I have a short frenulum (on my penis, not my tongue) which is moderately common among men and has a few options for treatment to my knowledge. They are: manual stretching (painful, slow, won't necessarily yield desired results if breve is severe enough - free), frenuloplasty (a quick surgery where the frenulum is essentially lenthened - pricy), and circumcision.

Normally, none of these options would pose a potential threat to oneself morally, but I have another issue which may well be tied to this one, and that is that I am overly sensitive in that area and experience symptoms of premature ejaculation (PE) (which could well be explained by 6 years addiction to pornography and masturbation). I am not married and am a virgin but know I have an issue with PE because I have ejaculated once while kissing my girlfriend with no contact to even that general area. My mind wasn't wandering or anything, it just happened.

Now to the situation about which I have a question: Since it's free, I've tried the stretching method a few times. The problem is that since I'm ridiculously sensitive etc I get an erection. I keep stretching (it's painful, not pleasurable), and both times I've done it for more than 30 seconds, I ended up ejaculating within a few minutes. It shocked me the first time because I was feeling pain, not stimulation. Clearly my nerves thought differently.. The second time, I justified trying again only because I wasn't masturbating (intentionally stimulating) and ejaculation was a side-effect, however serious a side effect it is. Though I have not done it for long enough to really know if the stretching will yield any results, I certainly have seen nothing positive from this method yet.

My question: given the potential moral danger and ridiculous side effect this method of correcting my frenulum breve, would you think it best for me to simply skip to the surgery? And in your opinion, have I sinned? I know I have not sinned mortally, but especially since I've done it a second time knowing what could happen, could it be a grave sin?

I have not yet seen a doctor and would have to before I got the surgery, but say the doctor agreed I had this problem (frenulum breve - I'll address premature ejaculation later in life, when I know for sure it isn't related to this issue), how would you advise me? I already have an opinion, and will speak with my confessor about this. I think that he will direct me to simply get the surgery rather than mess around with stretching, as I think I should.

Thank you!

Dear Jimmy:

There is no sin with your erection or premature ejaculation as this is essentially beyond your control (unless you do the technique for the purpose of sexual stimulation).

I would advise against the stretching method. If you continue with that method you run the risk of sexualizing pain. That will bring a whole new set of problems for you.

I would discuss this problem with your doctor and see what options you have other than the stretching. Surgery is likely the best choice whether it be circumcision or Frenuloplasty. Circumcision is usually not required in most cases, from what I understand, but circumcision has the added benefit of being healthier. Uncircumcised men tend to have many problems. There is debate in the medical community about this, but from what I read circumcision has benefits well over that of being uncircumcised.

You need to talk to your doctor about your condition, the options for treatment, and decide which treatment is best for you.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
