Question: If anal sex occured during fornication, does confessing this sin as fornication suffice or does one have to confess that anal sex was involved? |

Question Answered by
***** Dear Mark: Although it is nasty, as Father William Most told me once, it is not a sin to have anal sex as long as the man does not ejaculate. There are medical and sanitary reasons, however, to avoid this type of sex. Fornication is fornication. The Church requires that we confess kind and number; details are not required unless the priest asks for details. Thus, to confess fornication is sufficient, anal sex is not a separate sin. If, however, the man ejaculates anywhere outside of the vagina that constitutes a separate sin -- that of blocking the potential of life -- which will be a second sin to confess in addition to fornication.
