Valid Ordinations | Manuel | Monday, July 11, 2011 |
Question: I read on a traditionalist website that priestly ordinations after 1967 are invalid due to the new rite of ordination which doesn't confer on the recipient the power to offer sacrifice. Some traditionalists also have other issues with the new rite which according to them deviates from the old rite used for centuries in the Catholic Church. From what I know about church history, the early church didn't have any elaborate ordination rites (as in the old rite) and a simple laying of hands by the bishop conferred priestly ordination. Am I correct? Thank you for answering my question,Brother and may God bless you. |

Dear Manuel: Avoid these sites for they will lead you astray of the true Church. St. Teresa of Avila once said,"The more we see failure in obedience, the stronger should be our suspicion of temptation" and we certainly see the temptation in these people: the temptation to arrogance, rebellion, divisiveness, and pride. "Lord, those are your best servants who wish to shape their life on Your answers rather than to shape your answers on their wishes." --St. Augustine God Bless,
